Arthonia platyspilea

This species is typical of most Arthonias of the region. Ascomata are shapeless and have no margins, being delimited only by the thallus. In our area there is a close association between A. platyspilea and mahogany trees (Swietenia mahagoni). Neither the bark surface nor the solar aspect seem to make a difference to this Arthonia, for it is found on smooth surfaces as well as rough and in full sun or shade.
