Thin sectioning a lirella reveals a deep hyaline hymenium, a smallish hyaline or slightly greenish hypothecium and a non-carbonized yellowish-brown exciple lining the cavity. The thallus is extremely inspersed with large oxalate crystals easiest seen in the lower right corner of the picture. In polarized light these crystals shine brightly. |
