Dyplolabia afzelii (Syn: Graphis afzelii)

Dyplolabia afzelii is our only graphis lichen with 3 septate (4 celled) spores. But it can be reliably identified visually by its long narrow apothecia (called lirellae), the white color of the lirellae and the way that they sit well above the surface of the lichen. If additional help is needed, the lirellae will become bright red if touched with the tiniest amount of bleach. |
